Scott Thomson, new Chairman of NT C.o.P.

I am happy to announce that I have been nominated, and voted in as the new Chairman for the North Tonawanda Citizens on Patrol. Together as a group we have worked hard to improve our community. I hope to continue that effort.

I have been involved with the group as the Webmaster since Q4 2014, and bring my experience in online social planning and website administration to the table. Having been involved in website administration since 1998, it has long been an interest for myself.

I also have experience in volunteer emergency response and assistance. Since about 2001, I began voluntarily assisting stranded motorists on highways. In 2002, I founded a volunteer group focused on assisting the police force with traffic control duties, and promoting safe highways. The group averaged approximately two long term road closures a month, and about 5 accident scenes with lane blockage per week. Our safety record on scene was perfect – no additional accidents occurred. I attribute that to regular training, proper equipment and experience.

Our groups mission is to "promote the education of residents and businesses in North Tonawanda in the areas of crime prevention and quality of life. This includes the safeguarding of the community, its residents and their properties through voluntary activities including public information, problem solving and addressing city problems and concerns. We will create an alert neighborhood by using crime prevention methods and through the mutual aid of neighbors watching the property of other neighbors." And this is exactly the direction I will focus on.

My professional work involves working in the technical field of 'Communications' in the public sector. Communication is key to building a strong, aware and connected community. One of my main goals is to connect verified residents together on a web forum, which will allow us to communicate easily in a safe environment. I also hope to promote social events which will help bring the community together.

There will be some changes to our operation, which will be ironed out in the next few months. One of the first changes, as I mentioned above, is the addition of the Web Forum which is now operational. The next change will likely be the separation of our group political meetings, from the 'neighborhood awareness' meetings. We will also be starting up a 'safety patrol' activity which will help promote the group and get us out in the community on a semi-regular basis.

I am looking forward to working with City Officials, our Police Department, and Fire Services in doing what we can to help improve and maintain our great City, our Community! I also hope to work with other community groups to promote safety and security issues, and help facilitate the communication of those groups with the community.

Stay Safe,

Scott Thomson
